Nya Brown, known by her nickname "Nya B," is a junior outfielder at Prairie View A&M University, hailing from Garland, Texas. Standing at 5'2", Nya is a dynamic player who bats left and throws right, wearing jersey number 5. She is currently pursuing a major in Digital Media Arts, a field that aligns with her creative passions. Nya previously attended Sachse High School, where she honed her athletic and academic skills, preparing for her future both on the field and in her studies.
Softball has taught Nya one of her most valuable life lessons: "That when adversity hits you, you still have to keep going." Her resilience on and off the field reflects this mindset. One of her most memorable moments in the sport was playing in her first high school playoff game as a freshman, a pivotal experience that set the tone for her athletic career. Her love for the game is matched by her creative interests, such as painting, drawing, and singing, which are among her favorite hobbies.
Nya’s favorite food is pork chops, and her favorite holiday is Christmas, as she enjoys the festive atmosphere of home decorations and family gatherings. Her dream job is to become a creative designer or graphic artist, where she can combine her love for design with her passion for creativity. In five years, she hopes to have a fulfilling, well-paying job that she enjoys.
Nya chose Prairie View A&M because it offered her a space where she could feel represented and safe—something that was important to her after attending a predominantly white institution (PWI) where she didn’t see many individuals who looked like her. This sense of community and support made Prairie View A&M the ideal place for her to continue her education and athletics.
