Erica Henry

Erica Henry joined the Prairie View A&M women’s basketball coaching staff in 2015 after serving two years as the head coach at Fort Valley State in Fort Valley, Ga.

During her two-year stint as the head coach at Fort Valley State, Henry coached one all-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player, three academic All-SIAC players, and three recipients for the Arthur Ashe academics award. Her 2013-14 team recorded the highest team GPA in the SIAC that season. While serving as an assistant coach at Fort Valley State during the 2011-12 season, Henry helped guide the team to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

In between stints in Fort Valley, Henry served as an assistant coach under Patricia Cage Bibbs at fellow Southwestern Athletic Conference program Grambling State in 2012-13. She worked primarily with post players while also serving as the practice coordinator, scouting coordinator, and academic coach for the team. As Grambling’s scouting coordinator, Henry’s 2013 recruiting class to Grambling was named the top HBCU class in the country, and included two players that were named Parade All-Americans.

Henry’s coaching career also included a stint at Darton College, which competes in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association, which comprises two-year colleges across Georgia. While at Darton, she helped guide the Lady Cavaliers to consecutive 20-win seasons and trips to the GJCAA semifinals.

A native of Shreveport, La., and a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, Henry played collegiate basketball at Fresno State. A four-year letterwinner with the Bulldogs, Henry averaged 7.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game during her senior year as she helped lead the team to the Western Athletic Conference tournament championship and a berth into the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball tournament. Henry’s Fresno State teams also made two Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances during her four-year career. She was twice named the WAC’s Defensive Player of the Year, in 2007 and again in 2008.

Henry earned her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Services from Fresno State in 2008. She graduated with a Master’s of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from Albany State in 2013.
