Tron Griffin

Tron Griffin was named the Asscociate Head Coach of the Lady Panthers beginning with the 2015-16 season.

Griffin  came to Prairie View A&M in time for the 2012-13 season, most recently serving as the Recruiting Coordinator with special emphasis in post player development, floor coaching and opponent scouting. 

He directly coached Shamiya Brooks, who led the SWAC with 11 double-doubles and four offensive rebounds per game last season - which was also 14th in the nation. She was also second in the SWAC with 9.3 rebounds and 1.93 blocks per game.  Despite missing a substantial amount of time due to an injury, fellow post Larissa Scott also battled her way to a solid junior campaign as she finished tied for third amongst SWAC players in reboundng (8.3) and sixth with 30 blocked shots in 2013-14.

While with the Panthers, Griffin has helped guide the team to two SWAC Tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. PVAMU compiled a 32-23 SWAC record and added a 7-1 mark in Tournament games during his tenure.

During the 2011-12 season, Griffin was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Bethune-Cookman, where his duties included day-to-day operations, post player development, travel, academics, opponent scouting and oversight of team managers.

Originally from Jacksonville, Fla., Griffin attended Bethune-Cookman University and was a four-year letterman in football and one-year letterman in basketball. He was a member of the 2002 MEAC Championship football team. He graduated from Bethune-Cookman with a bachelor's degree in educational studies: business education. Griffin is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. 

After graduating from Bethune-Cookman in 2006, Griffin returned to Mandarin High School in Jacksonville and coached football, boy's basketball and girl's weightlifting. He was head coach of the Union County High School girl's basketball team that went on to win a district championship in 2009 and was ranked as high as No. 7 in the state of Florida. In 2009, Griffin then moved on to become an assistant coach at Florida State College at Jacksonville with duties overseeing post player development, on-floor coaching, scouting, and recruiting.

Griffin and his wife, Sheena, reside in Houston and have two children, Kimora, and Kaidyn. He is the son of Eddie and Linda Griffin, and he has three siblings: Pansy, Chuck and Terry.
