Biography

2017-2018 (31GP/31GS): Dobbins established herself as one of Prairie View's A&M's standout women's basketball players.  She earned a spot on the Boxtorow All American First Team... Named SWAC Newcomer of the Year along with Second Team honors....was named SWAC Player of the week twice....appeared in all 31 games with starts in each one.

Dobbins was one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference best guards.  The 5-6 junior, Tulsa, Okla., native was second in the conference scoring 21.7 ppg, and 13th in the nation.  She also led the nation in free throws made (296) and also in free throws attempted (367)......she broke the single season record of 280 in free throws made during the Jackson State game on March 6th......accumulated a season high of 674 points.....was fifth in assists and tied for sixth in steals in the SWAC after averaging 4.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game......scored a season high 40 points against Arkansas Pine Bluff, the most any SWAC Player has scored since 2012......scored 20 plus points or more in 20 games.....had a season high of 40 points against Arkansas Pine Bluff, nine rebound against Gambling State, eight assists against Mississippi Valley, six steals against UTRGV.

Newcomer Shala Dobbins offers Prairie View A&M all around guard play. A combo guard with blazing speed and quickness. The 5'5" Tulsa, Oklahoma native is a two time First Team junior college All-American. She is an athletic guard who can handle, score and find the open teammate.  She averaged 22 points and four rebounds per game at Wabash Valley CC,  leading the Warriors to a tournament berth in the 2017 NJCAA National Tournament. During her two year stint at the junior college level she scored over 1,000 points (1,100). As a freshman she attended Garden City CC, where she was named NJCAA Player of the Year.


2015-16: Named a 1st Team NJCAA All American, being the only Freshman in the country to be named to the 1st team All American. Dobbin's was named Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of The Year as well.  She also led the Jayhawk Conference  in scoring average at 19.9ppg.  She played in 31 games and shot 42% from the field and 78% from the free throw line.  She broke two school records at Garden City with free throws attempted  with 321 for the season and free throws made with 251 for the season. 
 
What Justice had to say about Shala:  "With the addition of Shala, our team will have another guard that can come in and be an immediate impact performer on both ends of the floor.  She can score and distribute the basketball and her electric speed will allow us to play at a faster pace on both the offensive and defensive ends."
