Savonya Collins is a freshman from La Porte, a physics major and graduate of La Porte High School. Savonya chose PVAMU for the chance to compete under a great coach and pursue one of the most rigorous academic disciplines offered. Her drive to run began with a simple motivation: to beat the boys. That competitive spark has since evolved into a deep love for the sport and a commitment to becoming the best version of herself.

One of Savonya’s most memorable moments in track came during her freshman year of high school, when she returned from a 400m race to find her teammates cheering and celebrating her performance. It’s moments like these, rooted in connection and recognition, that fuel her desire to continue pushing past limits and proving what she’s capable of. This season, her goal is to surprise herself by going beyond any physical or mental boundaries others may place on her—or she may place on herself.

Outside of running, Savonya enjoys drawing, coloring, and exploring any subject that sparks her curiosity. Her favorite movie is Sextuplets, and she’s a fan of Megan Thee Stallion and Alfredo pasta. Christmas is her favorite holiday, rooted in her faith and love for God. Looking ahead, she hopes to either be completing her master’s degree or already working in her dream job as an astrophysicist at NASA. With talent, drive, and curiosity guiding her, Savonya is ready to make an impact on and off the course at Prairie View A&M.
