Carlos Scott begins his second year as the throwing coach for the Lady Panther track team. 

Since his arrival at Prairie View A&M, Scott has played a tremendous role in the development of the team’s throwers as Andrea Chambers was crowned the SWAC’s hammer throw champion in 2010

A native of Waller, Texas, Scott was the Texas Class 2A State shot put champion from 1976 to 1978 and set the Class 2A shot put record that stood for 31 years at 67'-1/4". He also was an all-district lineman for the Bulldogs while participating as a member of the school’s basketball team.
 
He earned an athletic scholarship to Texas-El Paso and played football along with serving as a member of the track team. At UTEP, Scott was the Golden West National shot put champion in 1978 and was a three-time WAC Indoor shot put champion from 1980-1982. The WAC’s discus champion in 1980, Scott also earned All-American honors as a thrower as he finished second in the 1980 NCAA meet and third in the 1982 NCAA meet. 

Scott was invited to the 1992 Olympic Trials and finished fourth in the discus. He also competed in the 1994 USA Nationals and placed third in addition to winning the 1994 US Olympic Festival discus championship. Scott also was a member of the 1995 Pan-American Team.
 
On the gridiron, Scott was UTEP’s Team MVP and Offensive line MVP in 1982. He was a seventh-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals and played three years from 1983 to 1985. Scott also spent a season with the Denver Broncos.
 
Scott graduated from UTEP in 1989 with a bachelor’s in education.
