Erik Dixon, a native of Hyattsville, MD, comes to The Hill with a wealth of knowledge and a rich history of winning in the sport of track and field. He began his track and field career with the Hummingbirds Track club in 1994, since that time he has won Junior Olympic medals along with State and National titles. As a collegiate athlete Dixon competed for Grambling State and Jackson State Universities respectively. In his time as an athlete or coach Dixon has amassed a total of 3 state championships, 1 national championship, and 15 SWAC championships. Dixon is highly regarded as Coach E.
Since the start of his career at Prairie View, Dixon has made an immediate impact working with both the Women’s and Men’s teams. Under his leadership several school records have fallen, and athletes have won SWAC titles in the 10,000m run, long & triple jump, 100m, 200m, 60m hurdles, both 4x100 & 4x400 meter relays, as well as the pentathlon and heptathlon events. He has had several nationally ranked athletes in the sprints and jumps most recently Savoria Anderson and Asjah Harris who both finished the 2024 season ranked amongst the top in the nation with Anderson being US #40 in the triple jump. Dixon continues to place athletes in the top eight in the conference where his teams have finished on the podium since he took over in 2023 and in that same year Dixon was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Coach of the Year. In 2022 he led Nathan Crawford-Wallis to an undefeated regular season in the triple jump that resulted in a world ranking and an 8th place (All-American) finish at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, OR, a 3rd place finish at the U23 Caribbean Games, and a 6th place finish at the 2022 Commonwealth games in Birmingham, England.
From 2015-2021 Dixon has coached with Texas Southern University, The Kinkaid School, and YES Prep West where he as the head coach led his team to a runner-up finish at the 2016 YesPrep district meet. While at The Kinkaid School he helped lead the girls program to two Southwest Preparatory Conference team titles and also a 2018 Texas Relays girls division II 4x200 relay title. During his time with Texas Southern University he was responsible for 5 individual SWAC champions and 1 conference record holder.
Prior to coaching in Texas, Dixon served two seasons 2013 and 2014 as an assistant coach with McNeese State University where he coached sprints and jumps and was the strength & conditioning coach for track. He led several of his athletes to Southland conference titles and school records and he built a strength and conditioning program that would enable the 2013 Men’s and Women’s teams to finish in the top 3 in Southland conference team standings a feat that had never before been accomplished in school history.
Dixon spent 2010 at Stanford University where he worked as a Sports Performance coach with Olympic sports and Men’s and Women’s basketball.
Dixon begin his coaching career in 2007 at his alma mater Jackson State university where he served three years as the women’s assistant track and field coach, working with all track and jumping events. During his time at Jackson State University the Lady Tigers won three Southwestern Athletic Conference championship team titles and Dixon was named the Jackson State University, Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009.
Dixon, a was an all-conference performer in the Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Javelin, and Decathlon while at Jackson State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in health and human performance. USATF Level-I, USTFCCCA Jumps and, USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning certification, and FMS.
