Biography

Jaliyah Gray, a freshman at Prairie View A&M University, is a passionate pole vaulter with a personal best of 9'6". Hailing from Houston, Texas, Jaliyah attended Cypress Park High School before joining the Prairie View A&M track and field team. She is currently majoring in Kinesiology with aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer for the NFL.

Jaliyah was inspired to pursue pole vaulting by her childhood dream of flying. After researching sports that involve flight, she discovered pole vaulting and immediately knew it was the sport for her. This is the first sport she has ever truly wanted to excel in for herself, and she finds joy in the challenge of proving her abilities. Her passion is driven by the desire to do something for herself and to push her limits.

One of her most memorable moments in track occurred when she was vaulting one day and unexpectedly went backwards, breaking a board, which led to an unforgettable and laughter-filled experience with her teammates. Jaliyah is also passionate about dancing and enjoys spending time with family during the holiday season, especially Thanksgiving, where she gets to eat well and be surrounded by loved ones.

Her goal for the season is to build the confidence to be fearless in her vaults, overcoming any fears and trusting in her ability to "fly." Jaliyah chose Prairie View A&M University because they saw her potential and were willing to give her the chance to showcase her skills. She looks forward to achieving great things as a student-athlete and future athletic trainer.
