Syriah Burks is a senior track and field athlete at Prairie View A&M University, specializing in pole vault. She is pursuing a degree in Accounting and has already made her mark in the field with her notable performance in the SWAC championships, where she claimed 1st place in the women’s pole vault.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Syriah attended Cy-Springs High School before continuing her academic and athletic career at Prairie View A&M. She was drawn to track not due to any single inspiration, but rather for her own desire to challenge herself and improve with each competition. Her motivation is simple: to beat her personal best every time she hits the runway.

Her love for track is matched by her passion for crocheting, and she enjoys decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. Her favorite foods include tacos, sushi, and burgers, and she enjoys listening to Khalid, her favorite entertainer.

Syriah has big career aspirations, hoping to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and ultimately, she dreams of a fulfilling career as an accountant. Her goal this season is to continue improving and pushing her limits in pole vault.
