Dottie Hampton is the Head Volleyball Coach at Prairie View A&M University as of March 2025. This marks her fourth head coaching position, following previous tenures at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), Coastal Carolina, Niagara University, and the University of South Carolina.
At UNCW, where she served as the Head Indoor and Beach Volleyball Coach from 2020 to 2024, Hampton played a key role in reshaping the program’s culture and recruiting top-tier talent. Before her time at UNCW, she guided Coastal Carolina to a 24-6 record and a 13-3 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, finishing first in the Eastern Division and narrowly losing to Texas State in the conference finals. Under her leadership, Anett Nemeth earned AVCA Honorable Mention honors, and Brigitta Petrenko was named First-Team All-SBC and Freshman of the Year.
Hampton also served as the interim head coach at the University of South Carolina in 2017, following a successful stint as an assistant coach there from 2014-2017. She was the head coach at Niagara University in 2012, where she led the Purple Eagles to a 15-14 record and a 12-6 finish in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Throughout her career, Hampton has contributed as an assistant coach at Indiana University (2005-06), George Mason University (2007-10), the University of Pittsburgh (2011), and Butler University (2013). At George Mason, she helped lead the team to a 23-9 record, capture the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title, and earn an NCAA tournament berth in 2009.
A 1998 graduate of Purdue-Fort Wayne, Hampton was a three-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree, a two-time All-Region selection, and an AVCA All-America pick in her senior year. She also played professionally in Europe for four seasons.
