Kalandra Rankins

Kalandra M. Rankins came to Prairie View A&M College after fifteen years of service to public education and community colleges in Louisiana and Texas. Since coming to PVAMU, she has helped develop the Write-Up Summer Program, which assists incoming first-year students in obtaining favorable entrance scores. Mrs. Rankins worked with the Panther Pride summer program and was a room supervisor for remote testing. She has assisted with face-to-face and online tutoring for students' campus-wide through the Learning Curve tutoring center. Rankins has provided workshop presentations for the department of University College to first-year students needing guidance to engage actively in their learning for success in the classroom and beyond.

She teaches integrated reading/writing( ENGL 0111) and is a program coordinator for first-year experience and transfer experience (PVEX). Mrs. Rankins is the program coordinator for the Math Up / Write Up Summer Bridge Program. Recently, Mrs. Rankins was assigned as the writing specialist for Athletic Academics.

Mrs. Rankins has diverse teaching experiences, including GED and ESL at Houston Community College. She has also taught ESL to children, served as an at-risk reading instructor, and is a dyslexia specialist in Aldine ISD and Cypress Fairbanks ISD. While as an instructor at Aldine ISD, she was nominated for teacher of the year. She has taught Introduction to Education and First Year Experience at Lonestar Community College.

Rankins is a proud Southern University A&M College graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a master's in administration and Supervision. She is state certificated in several educational subjects. She is active in various civic and cultural organizations.
