Prairie View A&M sophomore quarterback De'Auntre Smiley and redshirt sophomore kicker Chris Barrick were recognized by the SWAC this morning as the conference's Offensive Player and Specialist of the Week.
Smiley, a sophomore from Lufkin, Texas who was playing his first game since Sept. 15, passed for 251 yards on 16-of-20 passing with four touchdowns and 30 rushing yards in Prairie View A&M's 52-37 win over Alcorn State on Saturday. In addition to the SWAC honors, Smiley was also selected by College Sports Madness as its SWAC Offensive Player of the Week. The Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and the top offensive and defensive player from each FCS conference in its weekly feature.
A redshirt sophomore from Copperas Cove, Texas, Barrick nailed 7-of-7 PATS on Saturday, including a 23-yard field goal. This marks the second time in Barrick's career that he has earned the honor.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday afternoon in the third annual Shreveport Classic versus Southern at 4 p.m. in Independence Stadium.
