Alicia Pete announced the signing of 6-1 middle hitter
Magda Zietek, a transfer from Missouri State University-West Plains, and Mya Shannon-McGlothen, a 6-0 true freshman right side/middle blocker from Long Beach Polytechnic in Carson, Calif.
Zietek was a standout middle hitter at Missouri State University-West Plains before signing with the Lady Panthers as a junior college transfer. She finished her sophomore campaign ranked 41
st in the nation (NJCAA Div. I) Â with 104 total blocks and ranked 51
st with .95 blocks per set. Zietek also proved to be accurate when on the attack. Her .272 hitting percentage ranked 73
rd nationally. She tallied a career-high 15 kills with a .407 attack percentage in a 3-2 loss to Hillsborough Community College on Nov. 15, 2012. Prior to that, she recorded a career-high 10 block game in a 3-2 win over Indian Hills Community College-Ottumwa.
Shannon-McGlothen averaged a hefty five blocks per game as a senior at Long Beach Polytechnic in Carson, Calif. The right side/middle blocker has been recorded as having a 28-inch vertical jump and a 61-inch wingspan, which will help solidify a Lady Panthers defense that struggled to get blocks at the net in the 2012 season. Shannon-McGlothen also averaged five kills per game as a senior.
