Panthers Fall To TCU In Metroplex Appearance

Six-Game Road Trip Concludes

GAME BOX SCORE

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team wrapped up its six-game road swing with a 78-61 loss to TCU on Wednesday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Prairie View A&M (1-8) fell behind quickly and spent the first part of the game trying to erase a double digit deficit as the Frogs led comfortably most of the way. The Panthers managed to withstand TCU's early punch and started to heat up as they rode the hot hands of seniors Brandon Webb and Trant Simpson en route to a 14-6 run over the next five minutes which cut their deficit to 27-23 with 4:53 remaining. From that point, both teams went back-and-forth as every time TCU threatened to pull away, Prairie View answered as they trailed 33-28 following junior guard Michael Griffin's trey at the 2:18 mark. TCU managed to overcome Prairie View's surge and closed out the half strong with a 9-2 run over the final 2:07 to claim a 42-30 halftime advantage.

A trey by Simpson cut TCU's halftime lead to single digits (42-33) as the second half began and the Panthers worked furiously to keep the game from slipping away as they withstood two early scores from TCU to trail 46-36 at the 17:41 mark. TCU moved up by 12 after a Prairie View turnover but senior Duwan Kornegay answered by scoring a layup in the paint to keep the Panthers within striking distance as they were down 48-38.

Prairie View missed its next five shots while the Frogs began to connect on theirs as they stretched their lead to 58-38 following a 10-0 run with 13:17 left in regulation. TCU took control of the contest from that point and improved to 3-0 in the all-time series against Prairie View A&M.

Brandon Webb was the lone Panther in double figures with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The Terrell, Texas native also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and blocked a shot in 17 minutes of action. Michael Griffin followed with nine points, four rebounds and four steals while Kornegay and Trant Simpson both scored eight points.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday as they'll host Ecclesia College at 2 p.m. on the campus of Prairie View A&M in the William Nicks Building.
