The Prairie View A&M women's soccer team dropped two close, intense matches to Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State this past weekend. Each game had a 1-0 result.

In both games the Lady Panthers suffered losses despite outshooting and playing more aggressive than their opponents. In the first period of Sunday's 1-0 loss to Alcorn State, the Lady Panthers had eight shots on goal compared to three by Alcorn State.

Angie Guillory and Yosselyn Aguilar led the attack for the Lady Panthers, combining for five shots on goal. However, Alcorn State goalie Ashley Murray fended away each strike from Prairie View's forwards.

In the 19th-minute of the first period Alcorn State forward Chavon Douglas found a couple of Prairie View defenders out of position and kicked in the deciding goal.

“It was like a flashback of (Mississippi) Valley,” Lady Panthers head coach Abe Garcia said. “We dominated Valley. One mistake cost us the game. We are going to have to try to finish on the opportunities that we have, because if we do then it could be a 6-to-1 game for us.”

The Lady Panthers also dropped a 1-0 decision to Mississippi Valley State on Friday. It was another contest in which Prairie View outshot its opponent. The Lady Panthers got off 14 shots, while Mississippi Valley State got off four.

Prairie View will face SWAC opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. on Friday and Grambling State at 1 p.m. Sunday in its home finale.
