Lady Panthers Battle To End Against SWAC Rival

Prairie View Ties TSU 0-0 In Soccer Showdown

BOX SCORE

In a classic rivalry matchup, both Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern fought to the end as the soccer contest ended in a scoreless double overtime tie on Friday evening in Prairie View.

Both teams had its opportunities in the first half with a combined 10 shots.  However, the goalies were on top of their games as PV freshman Bianca Garza tallied three saves in the period.

In the second half, Prairie View turned up the heat as they posted six shots.  TSU was just as aggressive with eight shots but Garza kept the Lady Panthers in the game with three more saves.  During the first overtime, Prairie View A&M had an opportunity to close the game out as Yosselyn Aguilar's shot went wide followed by a high shot attempt from Nahuacali Romo-Lara in the 93rd-minute.  TSU recorded two shots from that point but fell short as Garza recorded a save in addition to a blocked shot by the defense.

With the contest in the second overtime, PV recorded the first three shots of the period led by Angie Guillory, Gabriella Ramos and J.D. Devany.  Unfortunately, the Tiger defense proved to be stingy as goalie Rebecca Hajny logged three saves.  TSU had two shot opportunities in the 107th-minute but fell short also as Garza saved one followed by a high shot.

Guillory led the way with four shot attempts followed by Jade Miller's three.  Garza finished with a total of eight saves.

Prairie View returns to action on Friday as they'll host Mississippi Valley at 7 p.m.
