AMES, Ia. – Iowa State never trailed as they claimed an 84-59 non-conference victory over Prairie View A&M on Tuesday evening in the Hilton Coliseum.
The Cyclones led 8-0 less than three minutes in before the Panthers found the scoreboard as sophomore Jules Montgomery trimmed the deficit to 8-2. ISU upped its margin to 10-2 but PV drew to within five (10-5) following a three-pointer from freshman Montrael Scott at the 16:06 mark. That would be the closest the Panthers would get as turnovers and missed baskets began to pile up as the half went on. Over the final 16 minutes of the first half, Prairie View A&M committed 10 total turnovers and made only eight baskets from that point while ISU shot 54 percent from the field en route to a 46-23 halftime advantage.
Despite the early deficit, the Panthers continued to fight early in the second half as ISU's lead was cut to 14 (49-35) following a 12-3 run to open the half. The tide quickly switched back in favor of ISU following the run as the Cyclones answered with a 14-4 surge of its own to pull away for good. Prairie View A&M put forth a better shooting performance in the second half as they shot 16-of-32 from the field for a 50 percent clip.
Junior Jourdan DeMuynck was PV's top scorer with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Sophomore Demondre Chapman led the team in rebounding with seven.
The Panthers finally return home on Sunday, Dec. 18 for a non-conference matchup against Dallas Christian at 3 p.m.
