Softball Falls In Tourney Finale

Den Beste Earns Tourney Honors

LAFAYETTE, La. – Despite having an early lead, the Prairie View A&M softball team dropped its Louisiana Classics Tournament finale to Sam Houston State by a margin of 14-5 on Sunday.
Prairie View claimed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first as SHSU walked in two runs in addition to an RBI single from Brittanie Gardner. The lead was brief though as SHSU answered with a five-run first followed by a six-run second to move ahead 11-3 after two innings of play. Prairie View returned to the scoreboard in the fourth after an RBI from Bridget Coronado along with scoring on a wild pitch en route to an 11-5 deficit. The Ladykats answered with three runs in the bottom frame and held PV scoreless in the fifth to claim the victory.
Freshman Katelyn Den Beste went 1-for-2 with two runs and a pair of walks. Coronado, Jasmine Littles, Lauren Grun and Gardner had an RBI each while Kesha Hagerman also went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Gardner dropped to 0-1 on the mound this season.
Den Beste also was rewarded for her efforts as she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
