The Prairie View A&M softball team split a doubleheader in contrasting fashions on Saturday as they fell 9-0 in the opener before rallying in game two for an 11-10 comeback win over Texas Southern.
In game one, TSU used a five-run fourth to break open the game en route to a 9-0 victory.
TSU jumped ahead 2-0 in the first and added a run in the third to lead 3-0 entering the fourth frame. The Lady Panthers ran into trouble in the fourth as TSU's Yesenia Torres recorded a three-RBI double followed by a two-run homer from Tenesha Skrine to seal the win.
Brittanie Gardner was tagged with the loss on the mound while Kesha Hagerman, Jamsin Littles and Gardner each had one hit.
Things looked bleak in game two of the doubleheader for the Lady Panthers as TSU stormed out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. However, the Lady Panthers fought back and countered every move TSU made as Bridget Coronado went 6-for-6 in an 11-10 extra-inning comeback win.
Once again, TSU stormed out to an early margin as they led 7-0 after three innings of action. Both teams remained scoreless from that point until the bottom of the sixth as PV loaded the bases to begin the frame but recorded back-to-back outs.
