Softball Splits With Huston-Tillotson

GAME ONE BOX

GAME TWO BOX

The Prairie View A&M softball team split a doubleheader with Huston-Tillotson on Friday evening as they fell 11-8 in the opener before regrouping to win 8-4 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Huston-Tillotson jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings of action and withstood a late Prairie View A&M rally to claim an 11-8 win.

The Lady Panthers had a case of the error bug with four over the first three innings which led to nine runs by the Lady Rams. In similar fashion to last week's comeback win over TSU, Prairie View came alive in the fifth as Darlene Salinas hit a three-run homer to key a five-run frame which featured six runs off of four hits and two errors. However, Prairie View wouldn't have any late-game heroics this time as HTU sealed the win with two runs in the sixth.

Bridget Coronado was credited with the loss for the Lady Panthers on the mound. Kesha Hagerman and Artavia Woods had a pair of hits for PV while Salinas led the team with three RBIs.

After a disappointing opener, PV bounced back in the nightcap with a pair of big innings to claim an 8-4 split.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings of action but hit a buzzsaw as HTU scored three in the fourth to trim the margin to 4-3. PV responded with a four-run fourth to break the game open en route to their third win of the year.

Destini Darby and Lauren Grun led PV with two hits and two RBIs apiece. Brittanie Gardner earned the win with five strikeouts in a complete-game performance.
