Softball Falls To Houston Baptist In Doubleheader

GAME ONE BOX SCORE

GAME TWO BOX SCORE

HOUSTON – The Prairie View A&M softball team dropped a doubleheader to Houston Baptist this afternoon by margins of 5-0 and 7-0.

In game one, the Lady Panthers couldn't close the door in the early frames as HBU recorded a 5-0 win.

HBU took advantage of a PV error in the outfield to lead 1-0 after the second inning. With two outs in the third, the Lady Panthers once again ran into trouble as HBU upped its advantage to 4-0 following back-to-back RBIs. Offensively, the Lady Panthers had opportunities to score as the game progressed but failed to get the timely hit when needed.

PV scattered five hits and drew three walks in game one. Senior Bridget Coronado fell to 3-5 on the mound as she struck out six in six innings of action.

Game two was opposite of the opener as HBU broke open a tight game in the sixth with four runs en route to a 7-0 victory.

HBU ended a scoreless tie in the third with a pair of runs and went up 3-0 in the fifth after a home run. The Lady Panthers hung tight over the next few frames behind the pitching of sophomore Brittanie Gardner and their defense but ran into trouble in the sixth as HBU scored four runs off of five hits to break the game open.

Gardner fell to 2-5 on the year as she struck out four in a complete-game performance. PV tallied four hits and committed two errors defensively.

The Lady Panthers return to action next week as they host Texas-Arlington on Wednesday, March 16 at 3 p.m. in Prairie View.
