Lady Panthers Blank Alabama State

Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers opened up SWAC play in exciting fashion with a thrilling victory over Alabama State Hornets, 4-0, Friday night at Lady Panther Field.

The Lady Panthers got clicking early controling the pace of the game with constant preasure on Alabama State's backline. Prairie View's midfielder Debbie Arguellos opened up the match with the first chance at goal with a shot from ten yards out that went wide of the net. Prairie View continued to press forward as Brenda Castillo re-directed a cross from Arguellos inside the box that put the Lady Panthers up, 1-0, in the eighth minute of play.

Claudia Martinez took the next opportunity at goal after Castillo took a hard foul from Alabama State defender Ashley Clarke. After the hard take down Martinez stood up to the challenge bending a free kick around the Lady Hornet goalkeeper giving the Lady Panthers the decisive 2-0 lead.

Opening up the second half Prairie View continued their dominance offensively creating multiple chances at the net as Abigal Escobar made an excellent run as she sliced and diced the Hornet defense to find JD Devany running past the last Alabama State defender to place the ball in the back of the net to give the Lady Panthers the 3-0 advantage. Alabama State attempted to bounce back as Mellisa Douglas and Alexandria Ayers had a golden chance off a corner kick but were denied with back to back saves by Prairie View's goalkeeper Melissa Aguayo who finished the contest with a total of five saves.

The Lady Panthers didn't stop there as Hedi Carroll made a run at goal from the right wing and delivered a cross into the box that Jade Miller was able to re-direct into the back of the net to claim the fourth goal of the game in the final minutes of play.

In a quick turn around the Lady Panthers will host Alabama A&M on Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
