GAME TWO BOX SCORE
Prairie View A&M dropped a softball doubleheader to Houston Baptist on Tuesday afternoon as the Huskies won 8-2 and 4-0 in Prairie View.
In game one, HBU used a five-run third inning to break the game open en route to an 8-2 win.
Both teams scored a pair of runs in the first for a 2-2 tie but HBU crossed home a run in the second for a 3-2 advantage before breaking the game open in the third with a five-hit, five-run frame for a 8-2 lead. The Lady Panthers never recovered from that point as they would only muster three singles offensively over the remainder of the contest.
Starting pitcher Bridget Coronado fell to 6-12 on the season while freshman catcher Leanna Flores finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
HBU completed the sweep in game two with a 4-0 win despite a nine-hit performance by the Lady Panthers.
Kate Maddock doubled home the game's first run followed by a wild pitch which allowed HBU to gain a 2-0 advantage. The Huskies added a solo homer in the third and a RBI double from Sara Corcoran in the fifth to seal the win. Prairie View had nine hits in the contest but only had one runner reach third as Flores led the team with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate.
Prairie View travels to Victoria, Texas on Saturday as they'll battle UH-Victoria in a non-conference contest beginning at 1 p.m.
