The Prairie View A&M softball team dropped both games on Saturday as Southern combined to hit five home runs as they fell by scores of 5-0 and 14-0.
In game one, Southern's Shabanese Brown hit a pair of two-run homers as the Jaguars propelled 5-0 in the opener.
Brown hit the first of her two homers in the second frame as Southern led 2-0 after two innings of action. In the fourth, SU's Victoria Stewart led the inning off with a single and crossed home as Brown upped the margin to 4-0 following her second two-run shot of the afternoon. An error by Prairie View A&M led to a 5-0 lead by Southern in the sixth while the Lady Panthers continued to struggle as only two runners reached third base during the game.
Kesha Hagerman and Jasmine Littles combined for four of Prairie View's five hits. Lauren Grun struck out three as she went the distance on the mound. Southern combined to score 14 runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames as they completed the sweep with a 14-0 victory.
The Lady Panthers ran into trouble during the third as an early homer by SU combined with three errors led to a 6-0 deficit. Southern's Kia Williams hit a two-run shot in the fourth to lead a four-run frame as the Lady Jaguars moved ahead 10-0 after four. The Lady Jaguars used another three-run shot by Brown in the fifth as they sealed the contest with a four-run frame.
Lindsay Konopelko picked up the win for SU on the mound while Bridget Coronado was tagged with the loss in her home finale. Coronado also had a solid game offensively as she batted 2-for-3.
Following the contest, the Lady Panthers honored five seniors for their efforts on the diamond in Destini Darby, Bridget Coronado, Artavia Woods, Kesha Hagerman and Shaun Williams.
