JACKSON, Miss. - The Prairie View A&M basketball teams had a full week to recuperate as they're set to battle Jackson State on Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Miss. beginning at 3 p.m.
Both teams opened SWAC play last week with three games in five days. After a hectic first week of play, things have settled down as games will take place on Saturdays and Mondays until the final week of the regular season.
The Lady Panthers (4-10, 1-2 SWAC) snapped a two-game slide last Saturday with a 21-point win over Texas Southern in Houston. Prairie View A&M took two-of-three from Jackson State last season with its lone loss to JSU in Jackson in the closing seconds. Since last year's meetings, JSU has undergone a change at the head coach position as interim head coach Larry McNeil assumed the reigns on Sept.26, 2011. JSU is coming off a 49-42 win over Southern on Monday and is 5-9 overall and 2-2 in league play.
On the men's side, the Panthers can't wait to hit the court and put aside last week's loss to TSU in Houston. The Panthers are 5-11 overall and 1-2 in SWAC with a formidable opponent in Jackson State awaiting them in the Lee E. Williams AAC tomorrow evening. JSU has a seven-game winning streak over the Panthers which dates back to the 2009 SWAC Tourney Semifinals. When playing in Jackson, Prairie View has struggled with a 2-19 mark since 1990 with the past two contests coming down to wire in JSU's favor.
Both games will be broadcasted live on KPVU 91.3 FM beginning at 2:45 p.m. with Leonard Moon calling the action.
