JACKSON, Miss. - Prairie View A&M picked up a big road win as Louis Munks scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 72-66 victory over Jackson State on Saturday evening in the Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
The first half belonged to Munks as the sophomore guard from Arlington, Texas nailed four three pointers en route to a 16-point first half. The Panthers went on a series of runs in the stanza and led by as much as 13 with 5:03 remaining. Jackson State refused to go away though as the Tigers closed to within seven on four occasions in the final 2:55. Ahead 36-29 with time running down, Munks ended the half with an exclamation mark as he nailed his fourth trey for a 39-29 halftime lead.
Jackson State continued to chip away at the lead throughout the second stanza but the Panthers continued to find ways to persevere. Unlike previous years, which featured some crazy antics that went in favor of JSU, Prairie View A&M kept fighting as JSU would draw no closer than three points the remainder the half.
Saturday's win marked only the third win in Jackson, Miss. for the Panthers since 1990. In addition, the Panthers also snapped a seven-game slide to the Tigers.
Munks led the Panthers with 25 points while Jourdan DeMuynck and Demondre Chapman both chipped in with 12 points. DeMuynck led the Panthers with eight rebounds followed by seven from Munks.
