Panthers Light Up Grambling State For Road Sweep

BOX SCORE

DALLAS – Louis Munks scored 22 points and led four players in double figures as the Prairie View A&M Panthers controlled the contest from start to finish in an 81-64 victory over Grambling State on Monday night at the Ellis Davis Fieldhouse in Dallas.

For the second straight game, the first half belonged to Munks as the sophomore guard made quite the impression in his hometown with 14 points.

Prairie View A&M began the game with a bang as they jumped out to a 13-1 lead behind the strength of two treys from Munks. Grambling State closed to within eight points at the 15:54 mark but PV continued to shoot lights out from the perimeter as the lead grew to 18 with 4:20 remaining following Tim Meadows' putback. However, Grambling State's Quincy Roberts put the team on his back as he accounted for every point during an 8-0 run which saw the Tigers close to within 10 with 2:54 on the clock. Prairie View's Ryan Gesiakowski ended the drought with 45 seconds left as his three-pointer sent PV to the locker room ahead 42-29. For the half, the Panthers shot a season-best 53 percent including an 8-for-11 effort from beyond the arc.

Prairie View was never threatened throughout the second half as the lead grew to as much as 19 points on several occasions. Everytime GSU would try and mount a threat, the Panthers found ways to match the intensity and kept the Tigers at bay.

Munks led the Panthers in scoring for the second straight game with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Sophomore forward Demondre Chapman followed with 17 points while junior guards Ryan Gesiakowski and Jourdan DeMuynck followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Cortney Bell led PV with eight rebounds.

The Panthers, who've won two straight and swept the GSU-JSU swing for the first time since 2008, return home on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a big matchup versus SWAC leader and undefeated Mississippi Valley State at 5:30 p.m. in the Baby Dome.
