The Prairie View A&M Sports Hall Fame Selection Committee will welcome nine new members into its 18th class. Sam Adams, Sr. (football, 1964), Sebastian Barrie (football, 1989), Donald Bennett (men's tennis, 1962-66), Greg Burks (men's basketball, 1998-2003), Carlos Heyward (men's track 1990-94), Kenneth Martindale (football, 1964-69), Kevin McKinley (men's track, 1984-87), Alicia Pete (volleyball, 1987-91) and Dennis Wayne (men's basketball 1973-78) will officially be enshrined on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. In addition, former PV football standout and recently retired Houston Madison High School head football coach Ray Seals will also receive the William “Billy” Nicks Legend Award.
This year's banquet, which was moved to February due to a scheduling conflict during its traditional fall date, returns to the Prairie View A&M campus as its slated to be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 in the Willie A. Tempton Memorial Student Center Ballroom. The Sports Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony & Scholarship Banquet will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Olympic Gold Medalist and Prairie View A&M alumnus Fred Newhouse serving as the master of ceremonies. The class will also be honored that evening at halftime of the highly anticipated TSU/Prairie View A&M men's basketball game.
