BOX SCORE
Prairie View A&M lost its first match against a conference opponent this season, dropping a 4-2 contest to Mississippi Valley State on Sunday afternoon in Itta Bena, Miss. despite holding an early 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Panthers jumped out on MVSU after senior forward Yosselyn Aguilar struck the back of the net for a goal in the first minute. Junior forward Angie Guillory was credited with the assist that put Prairie View A&M up 1-0.
Then in the first minute of the second period PV freshman midfielder Kara Ballard gave the Lady Panthers what looked to be a commanding lead after a unassisted goal. The Delta Devillettes, however, countered with Kayla Boyd goal off of a penalty kick.
That goal sparked a momentous second-period scoring run for Mississippi Valley, which put up three goals in the remainder of the match. Prairie View A&M (6-9, 2-0 SWAC) travel to Houston on Friday to take on Texas Southern in a Western Division game.
