PV Soccer Takes Out Grambling For SWAC Win

BOX SCORE
Prairie View A&M forward Genevieve Devany scored big with a game-winning goal in the 84th minute to secure a 2-1 win over Grambling State Friday afternoon in Grambling, La.

Devany took a through from Debbie Arguelles and scored her first goal of the season as the Lady Panthers picked up their first Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the season.

Both teams were scoreless in the first half. Though Prairie View A&M out-shot Grambling 6-3 in the half, it could not put any of its balls in the back of the goal. Senior midfielder Katherine Sheppard put the first point on the board in the 49th minute. Senior forward Yosselyn Aguilar was credited with the assist on a corner kick deflection. It was Sheppard's first goal of the season, and Aguilar, who has five goals and three assists this year, was credited with her 13th point.

Grambling's Khadajha Simpkins retaliated with a game-tying goal in the 51st minute. However, the Lady Panthers' defense held steady, and sophomore keeper Bianca Garza picked up her first conference win of the season. She finished with six saves.

Prairie View A&M will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. Sunday in Pine Bluff, Arkansas as it looks to pick up another SWAC win.
