BOX SCORE
It may have taken two overtime periods and 120 minutes of soccer, but Prairie View A&M defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday afternoon after junior forward Angie Guillory scored on a penalty kick in the 117th minute as the Lady Panthers picked up the 1-0 win.
Guillory took advantage of being fouled in the restricted area and was put in position to deliver a death blow to UAPB just three minutes before the end of the second overtime period. With the clutch win, the Lady Panthers improved to 2-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play and improved their regular season conference winning streak to four games, dating back to Oct. 23, 2011.
Prairie View A&M has also won six of its last seven games against SWAC opponents dating back to Oct. 23, 2011. Sophomore goal keeper Bianca Garza recorded her second shutout of the season after blanking Golden Lions. In 120 minutes of play she recorded three saves as the Prairie View A&M defense limited UAPB offensively.
UAPB was out-shot 32-9 on Sunday, and the Lady Panthers also had 12 shots on goal compared to UAPB's three.
Prairie View A&M (5-7, 2-0 SWAC) will take on Alcorn State at 7 p.m. on Friday in Alcorn State, Miss. before traveling to Mississippi Valley State on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match up.
