The Prairie View A&M Panthers return home after a five-game road trip to face the Houston Cougars Wednesday night in the Baby Dome at 7 p.m. This marks the first meeting between both teams since 2006 and the first trip to Prairie View, Texas for the Cougars since Jan. 17, 2002. Both teams will play each other in a home-and-home affair this year as PV travels to UH on Dec. 28. Despite being located less than 60 miles from each other, tonight's game only marks the fourth meeting all-time between both schools. Houston leads the all-time series 2-1. The contest will be video streamed live on PANTHERVISION at 6:35 p.m. and KPVU 91.3 FM.
The Panthers went 1-4 during their previous road trip with a win over Navy in the annual South Padre Invitational last week. In their three losses at the invite, the Panthers fell by an average margin of 8.3 points per contest as they lost to TCU, UAB and Fairleigh Dickinson. Tonight's opponent in Houston marks the team's second matchup against an opponent from Conference USA as PV faced UAB last Tuesday night in Birmingham, Ala.
Senior guards Jourdan DeMuynck and Carl Blair have had the hot hands lately as both players are scoring in double figures for the Panthers. DeMuynck is averaging 13 points per game along with 6.3 rebounds and a team-high 14 steals. Blair ranks second on the team in scoring with 11.1 points per game and leads the Panthers with 5.3 assists. He's also tied for second on the team with 11 steals and is shooting 80 percent from the charity stripe. A transfer from Oklahoma, Blair had two rebounds, two assists and a steal in a win versus UH last season.
