BOX SCORE
Prairie View A&M looks to close out its non-conference schedule on a positive note when it plays No. 24 Texas A&M at 7 p.m. on Friday at Reed Arena in College Station.
The Lady Panthers will try to bounce back from a disappointing shooting performance against Toledo that resulted in a 76-41 loss in the championship game of the Toledo Invite on Dec. 21.
Prairie View A&M will turn to its trusted pillars in senior perimeter players Latia Williams and Kiara Etienne. Second-year center Larissa Scott will also need to have a stellar performance as the Lady Panthers prepare to take on their second nationally ranked opponent of the season. She will draw the tough match up against one of the SEC's top post players in Kelsey Bone, who is averaging 17.6 points and nine rebounds per contest.
Scott (7.1 points, 8.6 rebounds) is the teams third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder. She has also established herself as the Southwestern Athletic Conference's second-leading rebounder, so her ability to stay out of foul trouble will be critical against the Aggies. Williams (14.1 points, 8.9 rebounds) and Etienne (12.4 points) will also look to get off to fast starts, while the upset-minded Lady Panthers look to push Texas A&M to the brink. Williams is the SWAC's leading scorer and rebounder. Averaging 3.7 assists, she is the second-leading assist giver in the conference.
Prairie View A&M sophomore point guard Jeanette Jackson's ability to take care of the ball could be a key component in the outcome of the game. Jackson is third in the conference with 3.6 assists per game, and she leads the SWAC with a 1.6 assists to turnover ratio. Texas A&M averages 11.1 steals per game, placing it in the nation's Top 50 in that category.
The Lady Panthers are 0-6 all-time vs. Texas A&M, and it will be third-year coach Toyelle Wilson's first time to face the Aggies and Gary Blair, who at 628 career wins is one of the winningest coaches in Division 1 women's basketball history.
