BOX SCORE The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team could not overcome a slow shooting afternoon on Saturday and eventually lost to Alabama A&M 61-49 after being outscored by 18 points in the second half at home in the William Nicks Building.
The Lady Panthers shot 35.7 percent from the field, seeing little production from their go-to scorer from Jennings, La. in
Kiara Etienne. She scored six points in 30 minutes, which is 8.2 points below her season average.
Freshman forward
Larissa Scott (10 points and nine rebounds) picked up some of the scoring load for the Panthers, as did junior forward
Latia Williams. However, the other three starters for the Panthers shot a combined 4-for-23 from the field. Junior forward
JaQuandria Williams came off the bench to score 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting, but it would not be enough to overcome the balanced Alabama A&M attack.
Whiquitta Tobar, the SWAC's leading scorer was limited to just 11 points, but she also added 11 rebounds and witnessed three of her teammates score in the double figures as well. Alabama A&M shot 60 percent from the field in the second half en route to improving to 15-10 with a 10-5 SWAC record.
The Lady Panthers (11-15, 8-7 SWAC) must win their three remaining games if they hope to enter the SWAC Tournament as a top four seed. They play host to Alabama State Monday evening as tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Baby Dome.
