It was a disappointing showing for the men's tennis team at the opening day of the Prairie View A&M Invitational Thursday as they lost 7-0 to the visiting Texas-Pan-American Broncos.
 
Kristen Powell and Jonathan Dingle started the day off with a scrappy No. 2 doubles match against the duo of Sebastien Job and Shane Kyral, but eventually dropped the match 8-4. This seemed to be the theme of the day, as the Panthers remained competitive in singles play but found it difficult to come away with victories.
 
Not a single player on the team won a set against a UTPA opponent, but both Powell and Dingle pushed their opponents to the brink on the way down. In the No. 3 match Powell lost the 7-6 (1) tie break and then dropped the next set 6-0. Trenton Johnson lost his first set 6-2, but seemed to carry some momentum he picked up at the end to the second set. He battled Job before eventually falling 7-5.
 
In the No. 5 slot, Dingle forced Kyral to play to his liking for a good part of his first set before falling behind and losing 7-5. He wasn't able to play with consistency in the second set and fell 6-3.
 
The Panthers fall to 0-3 on the season, and look to snap their skid against Xavier in a 2 p.m. match Friday at the Prairie View A&M Tennis Complex.
