BATON ROUGE, La. - The Prairie View A&M basketball teams hit the court tonight for an important contest against Southern University beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The Lady Panthers are currently locked in a three-way tie for fourth-place with Grambling State and Alabama State while Jackson State and Alcorn State sit one game behind with 8-8 league marks.  With six days remaining until the start of the 2012 SWAC Tournament in Garland, Texas, a variety of scenarios await the Lady Panthers as the third through ninth-place teams play each other tonight and Saturday which will determine the seeding for the tournament.

Even though the regular season is still in place, every game from this point is a must-win for the Lady Panthers as they'll battle arch-nemesis Southern tonight in a rematch of the 2012 SWAC Tournament Championship Game.  Southern won this season's opener by five points in January so expect another hard-fought affair tonight.

Things are much clearer on the men's side as the Panthers need only one win in their final two contests to clinch the No. 3 seed in the tournament.  With a win, the third seed would mark PV's best tourney seed since 2009.

Picked last in the standings during the preseason, Southern has defied the odds under first-year head coach Roman Banks and is in the running to finish second overall in regular season play.  With NCAA APR restrictions preventing them from postseason play, the Panthers will be in for a dogfight as they look to avenge their loss to the Jaguars in both team's SWAC opener in January.

All of Prairie View A&M's SWAC contests will be broadcasted live on KPVU 91.3 FM with Leonard Moon calling the action.  The station can be heard via the airwaves or Internet at www.pvamu.edu/kpvu.  Smartphone and tablet users can also hear the game live by downloading the Tune-In application for their respective devices and selecting KPVU 91.3 FM.
