Softball Picks Up Road Sweep Versus Bacone

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Prairie View A&M won its fourth straight contest as they swept a doubleheader over Bacone College by scores of 8-3 and 4-0 on Tuesday night at Muskogee High School.

Freshman Druscilla Marmolejo went 3-for-3 with four RBIs as Prairie View A&M belted out 17 hits in an 8-3 win in the opener.

Down 1-0 in the third, the Lady Panthers moved ahead 2-1 after Shontel Lopez's RBI single and Kelly Scruggs' RBI as she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Bacone answered with a run in bottom of the third to tie the game but PV responded in the fourth with a pair of runs as Marmolejo logged an RBI single along with Katelyn Den Beste for a 4-2 advantage.

The Lady Warriors trimmed their deficit to 4-3 as they scored a run in the fourth but PV's offense continued to sizzle as Marmolejo led a three-hit fifth after driving in two more runs to up the lead to 6-3. From that point, the Lady Panthers never looked back as Scruggs recorded an RBI double in the sixth followed by Marmolejo's RBI double in the seventh.

Marmolejo, Den Beste and Lopez had three hits each for PV while Marmolejo and Scruggs combined for six RBIs. Junior pitcher Brittanie Gardner recorded her first win of the year as she struck out two in a complete-game effort.

Senior Jasmin Littles led the Lady Panthers with three hits as they capped off the sweep with a 4-0 win in the nightcap.

Littles hit a one-out triple and scored the game's first run on freshman Alisa Navarro's RBI single to center to open the fourth. Freshman Olivia Pace kept the pressure on with a single which paved the way for Marmolejo to drive in PV's second run of the evening. The Lady Panthers moved on top 3-0 shortly thereafter as an error by Bacone allowed Pace to score from third.

In the sixth, the Lady Panthers moved ahead 4-0 on sophomore Sarina Rios' bases-loased RBI.

Littles led the way offensively with three hits while Navarro and Rios had two hits apiece. Freshman Meah Maddox picked up her first career win and shutout as she struck out three.

PV's Oklahoma excursion concludes on Wednesday as they travel to Langston University for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
