 GAME ONE BOX SCORE

 GAME TWO BOX SCORE

The Prairie View A&M Lady Panther softball team continues to ride a wave of momentum with a dramatic SWAC series sweep over Grambling State on Saturday. Prairie View A&M won the opener 6-0 before ending the series with an emotional 6-5 win behind a game-winning RBI in the seventh from freshman Alisa Navarro.

Shontel Lopez and Cally Falls hit two RBIs apiece while junior pitcher Brittanie Gardner threw a two-hit shutout as Prairie View A&M won the opener 6-0.

Lopez doubled home the game's first two runs as senior Jasmine Littles and sophomore Leanna Flores scored for a 2-0 lead in the first. Flores returned the favor in the second with an RBI single for a 3-0 lead while freshman Nicole Gallardo and Falls combined for three RBIs in the second en route to a 6-0 advantage.

Gardner was masterful on the mound as she struck out five on two hits. Flores led the Lady Panthers with a pair of hits while Falls and Lopez drove in two RBIs.

Freshman Alisa Navarro broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the seventh as her RBI double allowed the Lady Panthers to record the series sweep over Grambling State 6-5.

Third baseman Kelly Scruggs broke a scoreless tie in the third as her sacrifice fly scored sophomore Kartelyn Den Beste from third. A single from Lauren Grun moved Lopez to third which paved the way for freshman Alissa Navarro's RBI single for an early 2-0 PV lead.

Grambling scored its first run of the series in the fourth as Mikiesha Henson hit a solo shot over the outfield wall to trim its deficit to 2-1. The Lady Panthers returned to the scoreboard in the fifth in a big way as freshman Olivia Pace hit a triple to the right field wall which brought home three runners for a 5-1 margin. In the seventh with PV comfortably ahead 5-1, things began to unravel for the Lady Panthers as Grambling State crossed home four runs to knot the contest at 5-5.

Grambling had the go-ahead run at first with only one out but the PV defense came up huge as third baseman Kelly Scruggs tagged out Grambling's Jassitte Richardson as she attempted to take third base on Bridgette Simmons' single.  In for relief in place of starter Cally Falls, freshman Nicole Gallardo recorded a huge strikeout to end the inning.

With the game tied and series sweep in jeopardy, the Lady Panthers dug deep in the bottom of the seventh as Scruggs churned down the baseline for a one-out single.  Grun advanced Scruggs over to second following a solid sacrifice bunt which paved the way for Navarro to hit the game-winning RBI to left center as Scruggs scored from second.

Four Lady Panthers recorded two hits apiece in Den Beste, Lopez, Grun and Navarro. Pace led the team with three RBIs while Falls struck out eight on the mound.  Gallardo evened her pitching record at 3-3 after picking up the win in relief.

The Lady Panthers step out of SWAC play and travel to Houston on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Houston Baptist at 2 p.m.
