Season Comes To A Close As Lady Panthers Fall In Pitching Duel

BOX SCORE

IRONDALE, Ala. - Prairie View A&M's softball postseason run came to an end as top-seeded Mississippi Valley State won a 2-0 pitching duel on Saturday afternoon.

MVSU jumped ahead 1-0 in the first and crossed home another run in the third to extend its lead to 2-0. The Lady Panthers had their chances in the latter innings with a solid opportunity at scoring in the seventh. In the seventh, PV had runners on the corners with no outs but fell victim to an untimely double play as a baserunning error on third after the lineout cost the team a prime opportunity to score.

Sophomore shortstop Leanna Flores led PV with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate while Cally Falls suffered her second loss of the tourney after allowing six hits.

The season comes to an end for first-year head coach Vernon Bland as his 21 wins marked the most wins at PV since 2005 and the program's first winning record since 2003.
