Lady Panthers Sweep Huston-Tillotson In Austin

AUSTIN-The Prairie View A&M women's volleyball team snapped an eight-game losing streak by picking up a 3-0 win over Huston-Tillotson Tuesday night in Austin.

The one-two combination of junior setter Kelsey Espinosa and freshman right side Rachel Owens paid dividends for the Lady Panthers as Espinosa had 31 assists, and Owens tallied a career-high .421 attack percentage and 10 kills.

The Lady Panthers struggled with the Rams in the first set. Prairie View A&M had a .043 attack percentage in the first half, with 11 errors to go along with their 13 kills. The Lady Panthers let Huston-Tillotson hang around a little longer than they would have liked before taking the set 25-23.

Prairie View A&M made adjustments in the second and third sets to cut down those errors defensively and offensively. The Lady Panthers went on to finish 25-11 and 25-18 to take the second and third sets to complete the sweep.

Sophomore libero LaKeisha Allen (15 digs) and senior outside hitter Breanna McNeil (eight kills, 10 digs) provided defensive stability for the Lady Panthers as did sophomore middle Charae Caldwell (seven kills, two block assists).

The Lady Panthers look to take the momentum from their win in Austin and carry it into their SWAC opener at 7 p.m. Thursday night in the William Nicks Building against Grambling State.
