Prairie View A&M struck first in a 3-2 loss to Francis Marion on Friday night in Florence, SC, but the Patriots responded with three-consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.
Senior midfielder Navyd Diaz took a cross from Angie Guillory and scored a goal in the fifth minute take a 1-0 lead and briefly stun the Patriots. Diaz score on Prairie View A&M's first shot of the game extended the Lady Panthers scoring streak to four games.
Despite its early lead, Prairie View A&M had trouble with the Francis Marion offense. The Patriots had five shots on goal in the first half, tying the game in the 17th minute on a goal by Elizabeth Azare. They took a 2-1 lead after a Kelly Kady goal in the 35th minute, and in the 47th minute Asare contributed with her third point of the game as she found Yasmine Butler, who scored a goal from 18 yards out.
Prairie View A&M (2-6) cut its deficit to 3-2 with 1:47 left in the second period thanks to a goal by junior Maria Sanchez. Katherine Sheppard crossed it to fellow midfielder Debbie Arguelles who headed it to the foot of Sanchez. She kicked it in just a few feet away from the goal.
The Lady Panthers continue their road trip as they travel to Orangeburg, SC to take on South Carolina State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
