Prairie View A&M looks to take advantage of the remainder of its three-game home stand and close it out by picking up wins against Grambling State and Jackson State. Grambling State, a team that recently took a 13-point, 71-58 loss to the chin at Alcorn State on Tuesday, is first on the agenda.
Grambling has been giving up a league-high 78.3 points per game, and the Lady panthers will try to feast off of that weakness. prairie View A&M is averaging 56 points over its last two games, and in a 64-57 loss to Texas Southern on Sunday it could not overcome a slow start as a team. It took a while for senior forward Latia Williams  (13 points, 16 rebounds) and Gabrielle Scott  (16 points) to heat up, and their team's 37-point outburst in the second half wasn't enough to come back against TSU. Williams, averaging 13.8 points and 9.5 rebounds, leads the SWAC in rebounds and is second in scoring. With 3.2 assists per game, she is also second in the league in assists dropped. With her 16-point game, Scott unleashed her second-highest scoring output of the season. She scored 20 points in a 49-42 win over Hampton on Dec. 20, 2012. She is averaging 6.7 points this season.
The Lady panthers have gotten off to a relatively slow start in conference play. After winning their first conference game against Alcorn State by 12 points, the Lady Panthers have lost their last two games by a combined 12 points. Each of prairie View A&M's conference losses have been decided in the final two minutes of the contest, leaving the team hungry to play clutch down the stretch and pick up another victory.
Coach Toyelle Wilson  will scheme to slow down the SWAC's leading scorer in JoAnna Miller.  She is averaging 14.8 points this season, and over her last three games Miller has simply been on fire, putting up 23.3 points per game. In SWAC play Miller is averaging 20.8 points, proving to be one of the SWAC's premier scorers on the perimeter. Her match-up with junior guard LaReahn Washington,  prairie View A&M's defensive specialist, will be pivotal in shaping the outcome of the game. In addition to being prairie View A&M's top perimeter defender, Washington also leads the team with 1.7 steals per game.
