Men's Basketball Prepares For Key Trip To Mississippi Valley State On Saturday

GAME NOTES
KPVU 91.3 FM

The Prairie View A&M Panthers depart the friendly confines of the William Nicks Building for a brief two-game road trip at Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m.  Both games will be broadcast live on KPVU 91.3 FM.

The Panthers have won two straight after a six-game slide and are 2-3 in SWAC play.  With an opportunity to play four teams ahead of them in the standings over the next three weekends, the Panthers have a legitimate shot at making a big surge back to the upper-half of the SWAC standings.

The 2011-12 SWAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, MVSU lost its coach and nearly its entire roster shortly after the season and has struggled with a 1-13 record under new coach Chico Potts.  Prairie View A&M has won 7-of-12 versus the Delta Devils with six of the wins at home.

PV head coach Byron Rimm is 7-6 lifetime versus MVSU and will have a huge task ahead of him this weekend as the Panthers have only won once (2010) in Itta Bena, Miss. since the mid-80s.

Senior shooting guard Jourdan DeMuynck leads the Panthers with 14.1 points per game and is pulling down a team-high 5.8 rebounds per outing.  Senior guard Carl Blair follows with 10.6 points and a team-high 5.0 assists.

The 2012-13 Panther roster returns five starters, nine letterwinners and adds seven newcomers.
