Turnovers Hurt PV In Second Half In Road Loss At MVSU

The Lady Panthers could not overcome a game-changing second-half run by Mississippi Valley State  and a uncharacteristic showing of 26 turnovers on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 65-57 contest despite holding the halftime lead in the Harrison HPER Complex.

Prairie View A&M looked to be in control of the game, holding a 47-43 lead following a JaQuandria Williams layup with 12:09 left.The senior guard finished with 16 points and five rebounds. However, following Williams' basket the Devilettes shocked Prairie View A&M with an 18-2 run, and they lead by as much as 12 points at 61-49 when Alia Frank converted on a free throw after being fouled on a fast break with 4:17 remaining. 

Mississippi Valley held off the Lady Panthers from that point. A Larissa Scott layup with 52 seconds on the clock reduced Prairie View A&M's deficit to 63-57, and that was as close as the Lady Panthers got. Scott turned in her third double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Prairie View A&M got a variety of contributors in the first half. Gabrielle Scott, Larissa Scott and JaQuandria Williams stepped up their scoring responsibilities and combined for 22 of the Lady Panthers 32 points with leading scorer and rebounder Latia Williams out with an injury. The Lady Panthers went into the locker room with a 32-30 lead and lead by as much as eight points at 30-22 before the Devilettes went on a mini run to close out the first half. Lareahn Washington finished the game with 10 points off of the bench for the Lady Panthers.

JaQuandira Williams and Gabrielle Scott (11 points) attacked from the perimeter with precision with eight points each in the first half while Larissa Scott picked up her six points in the paint. Prairie View was on fire in the first half, shooting 56.5 percent from the floor, while holding Mississippi Valley to 37.5 percent from the field. 

Prairie View A&M dropped to 6-10 on the season and 3-3 in Southwestern Athletic conference play. The team will try to bounce back with a win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 5:30 p.m. in Pine Bluff, Ark.
