The Lady Panthers have a golden opportunity to move up in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings if they can keep their three-game home winning streak intact Monday night against third-place Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m. in the Baby Dome. The contest will be shown live on PANTHERVISION and also broadcast on KPVU 91.3 FM. The Department of Athletics also encouarges all individuals affiliated with Greek and non-greek letter organizations to show up in their apparel.
Prairie View A&M has won three-consecutive games in the William Nicks Building, improving to 4-4 in the SWAC and 3-1 at home after defeating Alabama State 63-53 Saturday night.
After missing two games with a foot injury, senior forward Latia Williams picked back up where she left off. She finished one-point shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Williams is averaging a double-double in conference play, scoring an average of 13.5 points and grabbing 11 rebounds per contest. She is the only player in the SWAC to average a double-double in conference games. On the season she is putting up 13.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists as the leading rebounder, the second-leading scorer and third-leading dime dropper.
Junior guards LaReahn Washington and Michaela Burton came through big for Prairie View A&M in its win over Alabama A&M. Burton scored a season-high 10 points and Washington was one point away from tying her career-high of 14. In the final 7 minutes of the game, the Lady Panthers limited Alabama State to 0-for-7 shooting from the field and forced seven turnovers as they closed the game out on a 10-1 run. Prairie View made its living off of Alabama State's mistakes, scoring 22 points off of turnovers.
Alabama A&M (6-12, 5-3 SWAC) will turn to, top scorer and second-leading rebounder, Jasmine Sanders as it visits the Baby Dome. Sanders is averaging 11 points and six rebounds for a Lady Bulldogs team that hasn't been too good on the road this season. Alabama A&M is 2-6 in away games and the Lady Panthers will look to that home-court advantage on Greek Night to give it an edge.
