PV Women's Basketball Falls To No. 16 Texas A&M

BOX SCORE

COLLEGE STATION - The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team fell victim to No. 16 ranked Texas A&M and an aggressive defense in a 76-27 loss in Reed Arena on Wednesday night.

The Lady Panthers defense held strong through the first four minutes of the contest, trailing 4-3 with 15:49 remaining in the first half following an Alexus Parker three. However, Texas A&M followed that score with a 34-to-6 run close out the half with a 38-10 lead. The Lady Panthers were plagued by turnovers, committing 30 on the night.

"I'm very disappointed in our performance," Brown said. "We didn't come out with effort and the lack of intensity caused us to dig a hole early."

Prairie View A&M guard LaReahn Washington came off of the bench to score four points and lead all Prairie View A&M scorers in the first half on 2-for-2 shooting from the field. She finished the game with a team-high eight points on 3-for-5 shooting from the floor, finishing as the only player to shoot over 50 percent. Redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Scott followed up with seven points and one three-pointer to her name. Prairie View A&M's reserve guards combined for 15 bench points.

Junior point guard Jeanette Jackson, who lead the Lady Panthers with 32 points in their season-opener against Rice on Nov. 8 at home, was held to 1 point on 0-for-14 shooting from the field before fouling out with 2:00 remaining. Prairie View A&M shot 19.6 percent from the field as a team. Despite the low shooting percentage, the Lady Panthers actually held a slight rebounding advantage four minutes into the second half. Texas A&M was led by Karla Gilbert, who had 15 points and seven rebounds in the win.

"Overall we must get better offensively," Brown said. "We have to work harder in putting ourselves in scoring position. This team is full of talent. We just have to learn how to put it all together."

The Lady Panthers stay on the road to face an undefeated Florida State team at 5 p.m. central time on Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla.
