Colorado State Hands Panthers Third Straight Loss

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - A slow start in the first half created a hill too high to climb as the Prairie View A&M Panthers fell to Colorado State by a margin of 95-68 on Monday evening in the first leg of the Colorado Challenge.

Tied at 6-all early in the contest, the Rams turned the tide of the contest in their favor as they broke the game open with a 24-6 surge which spanned nearly six minutes. During that span, the Panthers shot 3-for-11 from the field and committed three turnovers while the Rams shot a sizzling 9-for-11 which included three treys.

Demondre Chapman ended the Panthers' drought with three points over the next 18 seconds and baskets by Hershey Robinson and John Brisco trimmed PVAMU's deficit to 11 (35-24) with 4:24 left in the first half. However, Colorado State responded and extended its lead to 17 on two occassions before finishing the first half ahead by18 at 49-31.

Unlike last Tuesday's game versus Texas A&M, there would be no second half comeback as Colorado State mainatined a comfortable distance for the entirety of the half. The win by the Rams extended the series record to 2-0 over the Panthers as the teams met for the first time since 2002.

Brisco led the Panthers with 17 points followed by 12 from Chapman and 11 from Montrael Scott. Chapman was the high rebounder with five boards followed by six assists from guard Tre Hagood.

The Panthers move on to the second leg of the Colorado Challenge on Wednesday as they'll face New Mexico State at 8 p.m. (CST) in Las Cruces, NM.
