LAS CRUCES, N.M. - For the second straight contest, a slow first half doomed the Panthers as they dropped the second leg of the Colorado Challenge to New Mexico State 91-60 at the Pan American Center.
The Panthers stayed within striking distance early in the half as they were down 15-9 following two free throws from Louis Munks. However, the wheels fell off from that point as the Panthers committed five turnovers which helped fuel a 25-0 Aggie run that spanned nearly nine minutes. By the time Montrael Scott put the Panthers back on the board with 4:59 remaining in the half, the damage was done as New Mexico State claimed a 47-20 halftime advantage.
Holding a big first half lead, the Aggies were never threatened in the second half as they went on to claim a 4-0 mark in the all-time series.
Munks led all scorers with 18 points while Hershey Robinson and Demondre Chapman posted six rebounds apiece.
The Panthers head to Greeley, Colo. for the final leg of the challenge as they'll face Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
