PV Women's Basketball Drops Game In Second Half To Central Michigan

BOX SCORE MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Prairie View A&M played its best first half of basketball of the season against Central Michigan, scoring a season-high 36 points in the first 20 minutes, but a cold start to the second half hurt the Lady Panthers in a 90-66 loss at McGuirk Arena.

Reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference Player Of The Week Jeanette Jackson came through with her third-consecutive 20-point game as she led the Lady Panthers with 20 points, six assists, six rebounds and just one turnover. Prairie View A&M coach Dawn Brown said she wanted to see other players contribute offensively, and she got it with junior center Larissa Scott and redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Scott

Larissa Scott turned in her first double-double of the season and her first game with 10 or more points as she stacked 12 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Gabrielle Scott came through with 14 points and five rebounds, also her season-high in scoring. Central Michigan, however, had five players with double figures and outscored the Lady Panthers in bench points 24-to-14. Despite the loss it was Prairie View A&M's first game with two or more players to score in double figures.

Central Michigan started the second half off by going on a 19-2 run that lasted approximately four minutes to take a 59-38 lead, its largest lead since the beginning of the first half. The Lady Panthers went cold from the field and shot themselves in the foot with unforced turnovers while the Chippewas got hot from three-point range, until Jackson drained a three with 15:04 remaining to cut Central Michigan's lead to 59-41. However, the Chippewas gained back and maintained their 20-point cushion for the remainder of the second half. Prairie View A&M did hold the Chippewas to two points in the final five minutes of regulation as they clamped down defensively.

Central Michigan jumped out to an early 17-6 lead, but Prairie View A&M scored four-consecutive points off of turnovers to pull to within seven points at 17-10 thanks to a fast break layup by Gabrielle Scott and a shot by Alexus Parker. Gabrielle Scott capped off a 9-0 run with a three off of an assist from Jeanette Jackson with 10:40 remaining to put the score at 17-15 with the Lady Panthers trailing.

The Lady Panthers continued fight from that point, and pulled to within three at 31-28 when Jackson made one-of-two free throw shots with 5:43 left in the first half. Larissa Scott then made the first of two free throw attempts with 4:50 remaining to pull to within 31-29.Gabrielle Scott hit a clutch pull up jumper off of penetration to tie the game at 31 with 3:04 left in the first half.

Scott led the Lady Panthers with 12 first-half points, scoring in the double figures for the first time this season. Jackson kept the pace with her season average, with nine points and five assists in the first half. Jackson surpassed her season high in assists in the first 20 minutes by dropping five dimes. What was more impressive, Jackson took care of the ball with zero turnovers (Lowest turnover total for a half this season).

The Lady Panthers have 10 days to recuperate before heading to Fort Worth to take on Texas Christian in their final non-conference match of the season at 7 p.m. on Dec. 28.
