The Prairie View A&M Panthers begin the second half of SWAC play this weekend with a matchup at SWAC rival Texas Southern in the H&PE Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The game will be broadcasted live on KPVU 91.3 FM immediately following the women's contest.
The Panthers closed out the first half of play on a solid note with two straight wins over Alabama State and Alabama A&M this past weekend. As a result, PV has won four of its past six games to inch up the SWAC standings after starting off with an 0-3 mark.
TSU is one of the SWAC's hottest teams as they've won 7-of-8 and are coming off a blowout win over Alabama State on Monday night. The Mike Davis-led Tigers have won their past three games by an average of 30.7 points and has turned the tide of the series lately by winning five-of-six contests since March of 2010. With Saturday's contest in Houston at the H&PE Arena, the Panthers will also have to deal with the road element as TSU has dominated the series at home since the building opened. Since 1989, TSU sports a 17-4 record against PV in the arena with PV's last win occurring in 2010.
Senior shooting guard Jourdan DeMuynck leads the Panthers with 14.4 points per game and is pulling down a team-high 6.3 rebounds per outing. Senior guard Carl Blair follows with 10.3 points and a team-high 5.3 assists.
